[How to] Fix the Need for Speed: Shift crash error

What's the hottest racing game out there? Yes, it's Need for Speed : Shift. The new version of this great game has gained acceptance among most of the medias and has been very popular around the world.

However, a great many of players came cross a crash error when that were happy racing. Here are several ways to try before EA releases the hotfix.

1. Delete the cfg file.

For XP users, turn to My documents and find NFT SHIFT folder. It is said that to delete the graphicsconfig.xml and all problems will gone. But i think you'd better to rename it instead or just do a backup before you remove it.

PS: For Vista and Windows 7 users, the directory is C:\Users\username\Documents\NFS SHIFT

2. Run in Windows mode

Open the graphicsconfig.xml mentioned above with a notepad or other tools and find

prop name="Windowed" windowed="0".

Modify it to

prop name="Windowed" windowed="1"

Save and quit.

3. Create new profile

Delete the NFS SHIFT folder mentioned above and restart your computer. Run the game and recreate a user profile.

4. Reduce Shadow quality

High-end video card users will turn this effect to a high mode. But it will be better to stay at Medium.

5. Run in Compatibility Mode

Right-click on the .exe file and hit properties. Then turn to compatibility tab and check run this program in compatibolity mode for Windows Me or Windows 98.

6. Disable the Sidebar

For Vista and Windows 7, it is better to turn off the Windows Sidebar.

7. Change drivers

Try another display driver. There is no need to make sure it is the lastest one. Sometimes old versions work when the new one fails.
