Windows 7 may be ready for back to school

If you or someone you know will be in the market for a computer soon and don’t want to get stuck with Vista or continue to use XP Microsoft may have a surprise for you.  Windows 7 may be ready in time for the back to school shopping season.

It has been known for a while that Windows 7 activation keys keep the beta going until Aug. 1, 2009.  That is a very specific date and could point to one of two things.

Information Week thinks that Microsoft will either have a beta 2 ready by then and those with beta 1 will be required to upgrade in order to keep using it.  Or more likely Windows 7 will be ready to ship by then.

Windows 7 does have some minor differences when compared with Vista but not that many.  There is the new taskbar and changes to UAC and there are some under the hood changes that some users may not even notice.  The article goes so far as to state that Windows 7 is simply a feature complete and bug-fixed version of Vista.

It has already been called what Vista should have been so why not.  Windows 7 is quite stable already and it would not be surprising if Microsoft has a finalized version internally very shortly.

With the “failure” of Vista users have been clamoring for Windows 7 since it was announced.  If Microsoft can meet the back to school season it would not only secure those sales but PC sales for the holiday shopping season as well.
